October 7, 2019

Hormuud Telecom Foundation has donated dry food to more than 300 vulnerable communities in Baardheere district. These Communities were mainly Pastoralist families who fled from the villages of Cows-Qurun, Faxfaxdhuun, Busaar, Ceel-raam, and Daarusalaam. They were severely affected by prolonged droughts, wide spread deaths of livestock, food insecurity and destruction of telecom infrastructure by Kenyan defense forces, leading to an estimated 20,000 people being in need of food assistance. What is worse, these internally displace communities could not make phone calls nor could they receive remittance from their relatives abroad.

Therefore, in respond to needs of drought affected communities in Gedo Province, Hormuud Telecom Foundation became the first organization to provide emergency food assistance, consisting of rice, flour, and sugar and cooking oil.

Abdullah Nor Hassan, the district commissioner of Baardhere has praised Hormuud telecom foundation for their generosity and continuous commitment to support local communities.
